Guernsey go in search of a positive result to end what has been a challening 2022/23 campaign in Isthmian South Central as their final trip takes them to Bedfont Sports.
A draw or better would not only secure 15th place for the Green Lions, but would also be a final nail in Bedfont’s coffin, as they need a win to stand any chance of survival, although they still require a defeat for Merstham against Westfield and no more than a draw for Sutton Common Rovers against Ashford Town.
Jason Martin, Tyler McKane and Glenn Le Tissier all earn recalls as rewards for their contributions this season. Charlton Gauvain and Ross Allen are also both back after missing the defeat to Hanworth Villa in midweek. Brandon Wallace could make his 10th start for the club, taking him to 20 appearances in total.
GFC are without a win in April but the hard work to earn survival was done from January to March. Bedfont’s win over Uxbridge on Easter Monday has given them a fighting chance of survival, but that was one of only three wins in 2023.
The two sides draw 1-1 in the reverse fixture, Danny Hale scoring his first goal for the club in November, while last season’s visit to the Bedfont Recreation Ground saw a then play-off chasing Eagles triumph 3-1, Will Fazakerley getting the goal for the Green Lions.
There is still an intriguing title race to be wrapped up at the top of the table. Basingstoke Town and Walton & Hersham are level on points, the former hosting South Park and the later visiting Thatcham Town.
Saturday’s match kicks off at 3pm. Fans unable to make it to the Bedfont Recreation Ground can keep up to date on the club’s social media channels. A full match report and GFCTV highlights will be on the website over the weekend.
