Guernsey captain Jamie Dodd is set to make his milestone 350th appearance for the Green Lions as they head off on their final away trip before Christmas, reuniting them with old friends Walton & Hersham on Saturday afternoon.
The Swans are four points off the top of the table with a game in hand in what is shaping up to be a thrilling race for the title with a number of teams in contention. They also made it to the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.
They have stumbled a little in the past few weeks with four defeats in their last seven games, having flown out of the blocks in August, and the Green Lions can take heart from the fact that two of thoses losses have been against Sutton Common Rovers and Bedfont Sports, who are fighting down the bottom of the table with the Sarnians.
Walton & Hersham were relegated to the Combined Counties League in 2019 but came back up as champions last summer. They were in a bad way having to leave their traditional home of Stompond Lane, but obtained new ambitious young owners who have set about rebuilding the club. They now play at the now defunct Walton Casuals’ former ground, the Elmbridge Sports Hub.
Tony Vance is looking for a reaction from his side after they equalled their worst-ever defeat at Basingstoke last weekend. The Green Lions are looking for a first win since the end of October to move out of the relegation zone and towards the pack in lower-midtable.
GFC have won four and lost two of the six meetings, the most recent being at Footes Lane in April 2016. Jacob Fallaize got his first goals for the club as a young side coasted to a 4-1 victory.
Saturday’s match kicks off at 1pm. Fans unable to make it to the Elmbridge Sports Hub can follow full live coverage for free on GFCTV. Highlights and a full match report will be on the website over the weekend.
