Guernsey favourite Dave Rihoy has signed back on for the club to add some much needed experience in a tough situation as the Green Lions prepare a vital game against Thatcham Town on Sunday.
The versatile 38-year-old called time on his GFC career at the end of last season and has been playing for Northerners in the Priaulx League, but has returned to training in recent weeks.
He is the Sarnian’s fifth-highest apperance maker with 254 games under his belt, and has 79 goals to his name.
Kieran Mahon serves the second match of his suspension, while midfielder Ben Acey’s loan from Bristol City has unfortunately been cut short, so he will not feature.
Tony Vance’s side would move off the bottom of the Isthmian South Central with a win, which would be their 100th in the league at Footes Lane. The Green Lions crucially have games in hand on all the teams above them and are looking for a first win since October.
Our last meeting with Thatcham Town was on a scorching hot opening day of the season, when we came away with a point after a 0-0 draw. Last season, we drew 2-2 at home and beat them 3-0 away.
The Kingfishers’ form has improved dramatically of late with four of their five wins this season coming since November, which has been vital in lifting them up to 15th in the table, eight points ahead of Guernsey.
Sunday’s match kicks off at 2pm. It is not being streamed live, but highlights will be available on GFCTV after the game, and there will be a full match report on the website.
