Guernsey FC Women got their rewards in the second half for a dominant performance at Shaftesbury on Sunday afternoon.
There was plenty of positive play in the first half, but Anna Gauvain’s side were just missing the final touch in front of goal.
As it so often is, it was Calleigh Hedley who got the visitors up and running soon after the restart as she found the net after a strong spell of pressure.
Scarlett Kenneally cemented that domination, making it 2-0 10 minutes into the second half. Hedley should have extended if further from the penalty spot but sent her effort over the bar.
Ruby Smith came off the bench to score her first goal for the club late on. She nicked the ball back off the Shaftesbury defence, took two touches and sent a powerful finish into the bottom left corner.
The win means the Green Lionesses remain unbeaten in the Southern Region Women’s Football League Division One South, in which they are now third. Sunday’s other results were as follows: Andover New Street 8-0 Bemerton Heath Harlequins, Farnham Town P-P Bursledon, Havant & Waterlooville 1-3 Bournemouth Sports Reserves, Nursing & Shirley P-P AFC Varsity.
