Improved Lancers next up a VP

Lancing

A sixth straight win and more pressure on the teams above them it the prize for Guernsey FC on Saturday as they welcome Lancing to Victoria Park.

With Lingfield facing Hassocks and East Grinstead Town taking on Haywards Heath Town, all above the Green Lions, this is a great chance to take advantage of guaranteed dropped points.

The Lancers are much improved on last season, where only a reprieve saved them from relegation after finishing in the bottom two. They threatened to spoil GFC’s bid to secure a home play-off on the final day of the regular season when they held out for nearly 80 minutes before George Goubert came of the bench to set the hosts towards a 3-0 win, with Matt Loaring and Sam Murray also troubling the scoresheet late on.

Jacob Fallaize serves the first game of a two-match suspension following his red card against Bexhill United., while Jamie Dodd’s broken ribs sustained against Newhaven still keep him out. With Josh Addison still recovering from a broken finger, Seb Sheppard is set to make his 20th appearance for the club. Matt Loaring and Charlton Gauvain (both knee) are still rehabbing.

If Will Fazakerley scores, he will move above Gauvain in seventh in the club’s all-time goalscorers list.

Lancing could jump three places to 12th with three points. They have been in decent shape since we came back from 2-0 down to beat them 3-2 in the reverse fixture in September (Corey Brouard, Jacques Cauvin and Archie Drillot got the goals), beating Billingshurst and promotion contenders Hassocks while gaining very credible draws against Bexhill United and East Grinstead Town.

A two-minute silence will be held before kick-off ahead on Remembrance Sunday.

Saturday’s match kicks off at 1.30pm. Supporters unable to make it to Victoria Park can listen to full commentary on our @GuernseyFC X Space and follow our social media updates. A full match report will follow.

Guernsey FC U23s are also in action, at home for the first time this season as they host CF Independant in the first round of the Guernsey FA Cup.

Leon Meakin will be making a few changes as some of the regulars from his squad’s league campaign are cup tied after already representing their local clubs in the competition. “Indies” play in Division Two locally.

Kick-off is at 5pm at Victoria Park on Sunday 8th November. We will provide updates via social media and provide a round-up on our website.
