Key trio back for Westfield trip

Tony Vance welcomes back Callum Stanton, Charlton Gauvain and Ben Acey to his squad for the trip to Westfield tomorrow.

Stanton played through a knock against Basingstoke last Saturday but his efforts that day forced him to watch the defeat to Binfield from the sidelines. Gauvain injured himself in a collision with the Basingstoke goalkeeper, which also kept him out of the midweek game, while teenager Acey returns having spent time on trial at Bristol City, current club of Alex Scott. He played in two U18 games against Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City, followed by an appearance in the U23s against Charlton Athletic.

They come in for Josh Addison, Tyler McKane and Kyle Smith, the latter going off on Wednesday with a slight injury.

The full travelling squad is as follows: Stanton, Marsh, Fallaize, Dodd, Le Tocq, Dodds, Jackson, K Mahon, L Mahon, Acey, Gauvain, Loaring, Rihoy, Le Tissier, Allen.

Wednesday’s disappointing performance and result means it is just one win in a dozen for the Green Lions, but victory at Woking Park in a lunchtime kick-off would move them up two places to 16th in Isthmian South Central, where they would stay if Sutton Common Rovers fail to beat Hanwell Town.

GFC’s last trip to Westfield was in our first season, with Ryan-Zico Black, Dominic Heaume and Allen adding to a Loaring brace in a 5-0 win.

Westfield are 12th with just four wins in 23 games, but are the division’s draw specialists, registering a league-high nine. One of those came at Footes Lane in November, when the Surrey side recovered from 2-0 down to claim a point, courtesy of an equaliser from the penalty spot with almost the final kick of the game.

Saturday’s match at Woking Park kicks off at 12.45pm. Fans backing in Guernsey can catch the action live on GFCTV, and are encouraged to gather at ‘Le Lion Vert’ at the Guernsey Hockey Club at Footes Lane to watch it together. As a courtesy, we would appreciate if you could take an LFT test before coming along. Highlights and a full match report will follow on the website over the weekend.
