Liam set to hit 150

Guernsey reunite with old friends for the first time in nearly a decade as Hanworth Villa visit Footes Lane on Saturday.

Midfielder Liam Mahon is set to make his 150th appearance for the club, becoming the 16th player to do so.

Tony Vance’s side are searching for some Christmas cheer in their final match before the big day as they look to jump out the relegation zone and make moves towards midtable.

Hanworth, based in Hounslow, were opponents for the Green Lions twice in the space of five days during the Sarnians’ mammoth schedule to end their 2012-13 season. Sandwiched between a Sunday night and a Thursday night game, GFC were beaten 2-1 on the mainland. They met again at Footes Lane in Guernsey’s fourth game in seven days, and they duly took revenge with a 5-1 thrashing thanks to Dave Rihoy’s only hat-trick for the club. Glyn Dyer and now 350-game man Jamie Dodd got the other goals.

Villa won the North Division of the Combined Counties Premier League last season to win promotion. They have won four of their last eight games to elevate themselves into a comfortable midtable position.

The Green Lions could move up two places to 17th.

Saturday’s match kicks off at 2pm. Fans unable to make it to Footes Lane can follow full live coverage on GFCTV. Highlights and a full match report will be on the website over the weekend.
