Lions look to crank up the pressure

Guernsey can reel Haywards Heath Town to within two points with a win as they gear up for a midweek away trip to Midhurst & Easebourne on Tuesday night.

The Green Lions will have played a game more, but three points would put real pressure on the Southern Combination Premier Division leaders, although they won’t be leaders by the end of the night if Steyning Town get a positive result at Little Common.

Josh Addison is unavailable so Jordan Kelly is likely to deputise in goal, while Fin du Port could return to the squad having missed the win over Bexhill United after captain the Guernsey U21s in the Ambassadeur Bowl the previous night. Jacques Cauvin was absent on Saturday for the same reason, while Fin Patterson was an unused sub and also travels. Niall Hainsworth also returns but Dave Merris isn’t travelling due to work – although his suspension for his double-yellow sending off on Saturday doesn’t kick in until the weekend. Charlton Gauvain serves the last of his two-match suspension.

Sam Murray needs one more goal to be the only player other than Ross Allen to reach 30 goals in a season, while Will Fazakerley – who is now on his best scoring season to date – is looking to hit double figures in a season for the first time.

The Sarnians triumphed 4-1 in the reverse fixture at Victoria Park and have won 15 of their last 17 games. Midhurst & Easebourne aren’t out of the woods yet but have a six-point cushion over the relegation zone. They have won two of their 11 games so far in 2026, but that includes draws against play-off chasers Peacehaven & Telscombe and Eastbourne United and they have only been narrowly beaten in the return fixture with Peacehaven and Horsham in their last two outings. New signing Connor Duffin has three goals in three games for the league’s draw specialists, who have tied 10 of their 31 games, in contrast to the Green Lions who are the only team yet to draw a single league match this season.

Tuesday’s match kicks off at 7.45pm. Fans not making the trip to The Rotherfield can watch full live coverage on our YouTube channel or listen to commentary on our @GuernseyFC X Space, as well as keep up to date with our social media posts. A full match report will follow.
