Guernsey are aiming to stay among the Southern Combination Premier Division front runners when they visit Lingfield on Wednesday night.
The Green Lions are one of just two teams left unbeaten in the league, but to keep up that record they will have to improve on their exploits this fixture last season, where Frazer Maginnis’s goal was not enough in a 2-1 defeat. It will be a change in venue as the game is taking place at Church Road, home of AFC Whyteleafe.
A win would set Tony Vance’s side up for the chance to go top of the table when Eastbourne United visit Victoria Park on Saturday.
Seb Sheppard will continue in goal with Josh Addison out injured, but Simon Arnold, Tom Dodds and Dylan Graham are back in contention after missing last weekend’s draw with Midhurst & Easebourne. Niall Hainsworth picked up a knock on Saturday, while Callum Le Lacheur went off after jarring his knee but luckily the injury isn’t as bad as first though. Sam Murray is out for a few more weeks, while Matt Loaring is waiting for minor surgery on his knee. Jacques Cauvin is away.
Lingfield are midtable with two wins, two losses and draw from their opening five games, but they have scored more goals than GFC. Kwesi Ntim has seven goals for the season already in all competitions. The Lingers were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Haywards Heath Town, the leagues other undefeated side, on Saturday. Four wins in their final six games of last season saw them ease away from relegation worries, finishing 12 points clear of the dropzone.
The last meeting between the two sides was at Victoria Park, with Guernsey coming back from a half-time deficit to win 4-2.
Wednesday night’s match kicks off at 8pm. Fans not making the journey to Church Road can watch the full game live on our YouTube channel or listen to commentary on our @GuernseyFC X Space, or follow our social media posts. A full match report will follow.
