Guernsey midfielder Matt Loaring can finally see light at the end of the tunnel in his bid to return from a long-term injury and hopes to be available in February.
Loaring hasn’t played since the end of last season due to a torn meniscus in his knee. He underwent minor surgery at the turn of the year and is working on his rehabilitation.
It’s been the longest spell the club’s record appearance holder (he has played 418 games and scored 111 goals) has been sidelined with injury. He was out for a while with a knee injury a few seasons ago while surgery due to a fractured cheekbone and eye-socket in an accidental head clash meant he missed few weeks of last season as well.
But he is looking forward to a return to the pitch, especially to make the most of the club’s new home at Victoria Park.
“It’s been very frustrating but now the surgery is out the way I can look forward to getting back,” Matt told GuernseyFC.com “The team is doing really well this season and I can’t wait to start contributing again to help us push for a play-off place.
“I know it won’t be easy to get back in as there is a lot of competition for places and other players have done really well in my absence, so I will have to make sure my rehab is done right and that I give everything to get my place back.
“I’m especially looking forward to playing more at Victoria Park. My only games so far have been the three at the end of last season and the Muratti, so now the team has really settled in there I want to be part of that.”
The 35-year-old who has played for the Green Lions since the very beginning, is still hoping for a full campaign at Victoria Park.
“I wanted at least one full season at the new ground and haven’t been able to achieve that this year because of the injury, so hopefully I’ll feel as fit as ever to go again next season,” he said.
