Liam Mahon
Midfielder
The younger of the two Mahon brothers has been involved with the GFC squad since returning to the island after a spell as a youngster with Northern Premier League side Ilkeston Town, from Derbyshire. Made his debut as a substitute against Hastings United in October 2014, starting his first match in central midfield alongside his older brother Kieran against Tooting & Mitcham United a few days later.
He went on to keep his place in the side from mid-December with a string of encouraging performance both in central midfield and at right-back.
He earned himself a place in Steve Sharman’s 2015 Island Games squad that won gold in Jersey. He played in three of the five games, starting two. His first appearance was as a substitute in the opening group game against Ynys Mon. He came on and scored the fifth in a 5-2 win, his first goal in Guernsey colours.
His good form continued into the start of the 2015-16 before an injury sidelined him and restricted his involvement for the remainder of the campaign, and he suffered a similar fate in the 2016-17 campaign which restricted his involvement after Christmas. However, he did grab his first goal for the club against Walton Casuals.
Has now gone from a promising youngster to first-team regular and is closing in on a century of appearances for the club.
