Tony Vance is not taking his foot off the gas despite Isthmian South Central being secured, selecting a strong squad for a fixture that coud see Guernsey have yet another say in the title race in their final home game of the season.
Having held out for a point against free-scoring leaders Walton & Hersham, this time it is their title rivals Basingstoke Town who come to Footes Lane on Sunday.
Keanu Marsh is missing with a hamstring injury and Jamie Dodd is rested with another tough trip to Hanworth Villa to come just two days later. Ross Allen is set to make his 300th appearance for the Green Lions, becoming only the third player to do so after Dodd and Matt Loaring. Joe Alverez could also reach his half century.
Jason Martin and Kieran Mahon come back into the squad after missing the draw at South Park, which was enough to keep GFC up for at least another season.
Vance has selected 17 for the fixture, which will be trimmed to 16 when the teamsheet is handed in. The full squad is as follows: Addison, Martin, Vaudin, Fallaize, Alvarez, Dodds, Merris, K Mahon, L Mahon, Gauvain, Loaring, Wallace, Hale, Allen, Domaille, Murray, Fazakerley.
Guernsey have lost only once in 10 games, form that has guided them to safety with three games to spare.
Basingstoke have led the table for much of the season but a 5-1 reverse to Walton & Hersham allowed the Swans to gain the upper hand. The Stoke were reprieved as the Green Lions stalemate with Hersham allowed them to draw level on points, but with a goal difference nine worse than their rivals, the Hampshire side need not only three points, but lots of goals.
GFC can now play with the handbrake off which means we should be in for an entertaining affair. We certainly got one at Footes Lane last year when the sides played out an eight-goal thriller. Late goals from Allen and Glenn Le Tissier, his first for the club, saw the Sarnians recover to draw 4-4.
Vance’s side will also be keen to settle a score after the Green Lions matched their club-record defeat in an 8-0 loss at the Winklebury Stadium in December.
Sunday’s match kicks off at 2pm. Fans unable to make it to Footes Lane can keep up to date with the latest action via our social media channels. GFCTV highlights and a match report will be available on the website after the game.
