Guernsey FC are delighted to announce that the Mike Thomas Trophy will be contested for the first time at Victoria Park this summer.
We are pleased to welcome Sheffield F.C., the world’s oldest football club, to the island for what promises to be a very special occasion.
Founded in 1857, Sheffield FC are recognised by both FIFA and The FA as the oldest football club in the world and remain one of the most historic names in the game. Sheffield FC are also one of only two clubs to have received the FIFA Order of Merit, alongside Real Madrid CF, underlining the significance of their visit to Victoria Park.
Introduced in 2015 in memory of the Green Lions’ much-loved former physio, Mike Thomas, the aim of the fixture is to welcome teams from Thomas’ home county of Yorkshire to kickstart pre-season.
The fixture will take place on Saturday 4th July, with a 3pm kick-off at Victoria Park.
It has been over a decade since Mike’s passing and we know he’d be ever so proud of our new home, Victoria Park. This year’s game carries added significance, with the fixture serving as a fitting tribute to Mike. The referee team of Brent Blondel, Ben Boardman and Tom Strawbridge, all based locally, each have strong connections to the area, making this an especially meaningful occasion for everyone involved.
Admission prices for the fixture have been set at £5 for adults and £3 for under-17s, with supporters able to sit or stand where they wish inside Victoria Park. Tickets will go on sale soon.
We’re looking forward to welcoming the club, their players, officials and supporters to the island for what promises to be a memorable afternoon of football and an important moment in the club’s pre-season schedule.
Further information regarding our pre-season plans for both the Green Lions and Green Lionesses, alongside details on season tickets for the upcoming campaign, will be released soon
