Thatcham Town 4-1 Guernsey: Green Lions can’t match Kingfishers

THATCHAM TOWN     4 (Nyarko 34′; Hoath 35′; Ceesay 56′; Johnson 87′)
GUERNSEY                   1 (Domaille 44′)

Guernsey’s miserable run of results continued at Thatcham Town on Saturday afternoon as the Green Lions suffered a 4-1 defeat.

Keene Domaille’s first goal of the season gave Tony Vance’s side a glimmer of hope just before half-time after a nightmare two minutes had left them with a mountain to climb.

Harry Hoath was kept at bay by Josh Addison shortly after missing the target and Sam Tanner rattled the underside of the crossbar after a slick attack.

Sam Murray couldn’t quite make the most of Matt Loaring’s good work on the right wing as he headed over the top, before the visitors found themselves in a spot of bother.

The first came on 34 minutes as David Nyarko drove into the penalty area from the left and waited for Addison to make the first move before dinking the ball over him at the near post.

GFC barely had time to dust themselves off before they found themselves two behind. The hosts won the ball back in the centre circle and spread it out to Clive Gwavava, whose trickery set Sam Tanner away. He picked out Hoath in the area, who took one touch to get the ball out his feet before drilling into the bottom corner.

Domaille, who has been in desperate need of a goal, threatened shortly before the break as he had two shots blocked in quick succession, finally finding the net from close range just before half-time. Sam Murray was the target of Joe Alvarez’s long throw, and his flick on found Domaille at the far post, who volleyed home.

A brilliant double save from Addison ensured the deficit at the break stayed at one as he first smothered Nyarko’s effort before leaping in the way of Hoath’s rebound.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with the Kingfishers largely on top. Tanner met a cutback but fired over the bar shortly after the restart.

But soon Mo Ceesay restored the hosts’ two-goal cushion as he met Callum Willmoth’s free-kick and looped his header over Addison.

Nathan Jones stroked wide and Addison foiled Levi Heholt from distance and Thatcham kept their opponents at bay with little trouble, adding the icing on the cake on 87 minutes. Christian Johnson was the beneficiary of good work by Jordan Alves on the right as he finished from close range.

Loaring cleared the bar as GFC looked to have the final say, but It was to be another fruitless afternoon from a machine missing several of its most vital cogs.

Guernsey remain in the bottom three with the other Isthmian South Central results as follows: Binfield 1-1 Metropolitan Police, Chertsey Town 2-1 Uxbridge, Marlow 2-1 Raynes Park Vale, Northwood 0-1 Chipstead, Sutton Common Rovers 1-2 Southall.
