It’s a big weekend for both Guernsey FC’s men’s and women’s sides this weekend.
Tony Vance’s Green Lions will look to put back-to-back league defeats behind them as they continue their FA Vase journey with a trip to Snodland Town on Saturday, looking to add a fourth win to this year’s campaign and progress to the third round.
There is positive news on the injury front with Jacques Cauvin being given the all clear to join up with the squad, having suffered a leg injury at the start of August in our first game of the season. Ben Solway is also available to bolster the back line after missing last weekend’s defeat to runaway league leaders Haywards Heath Town. Niall Hainsworth, Matt Loaring, Simon Arnold and Tom Vaudin remain sidelined.
There are a couple of milestones on the cards, with defender Jacob Fallaize set to make his 150th appearance for the club, while Dave Merris could hit a century of games, all have which have come in his 40s. Josh Addison should also be in the top 20 outright as he passes Tom Strawbridge onto 141 games.
Snodland are also a Step 5 side, promoted in 2023. They play in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division, where they are eighth but just one point off play-offs in a tightly packed top half. They lost to bottom side Stansfeld last weekend. They finished 18th last season, surviving by a point ahead of Lydd Town, who had a better goal difference but had a point deducted for fielding an ineligible player.
Reaching the second round is Snodland’s joint-best performance in the competition, having reached the same stage in 2023-24. They beat Cove 2-0 in the first round. They announced their matchday squad on social earlier in the week, and it contains Charlie Sheringham, a former Football League player and the son of former England international and Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Millwall, West Ham and Portsmouth forward, Teddy.
In the event of a draw at the end of 90 minutes, the game will go straight to penalties.
Saturday’s match kicks off at 1.30pm. Fans not making the trip to the Potyns Sports Ground (Snodland, Kent), can watch the first half live on our YouTube channel, or listen to the full 90 minutes on our @GuernseyFC X Space, and keep up to date via our social media posts.
For Anna Gauvain’s Green Lionesses, league leaders Farnham Town head to Victoria Park on Sunday afternoon in what is likely to be their toughest fixture so far.
Farnham have won all five of their games to sit top of the Southern Region Women’s Division One South and have scored a minimum of four goals in each game.
A win against the odds for Guernsey, who are still unbeaten after seven games, could see them end the weekend top of the table, but they could also end it in seventh given how tight it is.
The Sarnians will be without captain Candice Bougourd, who has a fractured arm. Codie Le Flem, Scarlett Kenneally and Donna Gallienne are all set to because the first players to reach a quarter-century of GFCW appearances.
The full squad is as follows: Hockey, Kenneally, Rang, Ogier, Dawber, Watson, Batiste, Dallamore, Kirstie Marquis, Mullen, Frampton, Gallienne, Leech, Le Flem, Hedley, Smith.
Sunday’s match kicks off at 2pm. Fans unable to make it to Victoria Park can listen to full live commentary on our Facebook page or @GuernseyFC X Space, or keep up with our usual social media updates.
A full match report will follow both games.
Leon Meakin’s development side are also in action on Saturday evening, facing Northerners in a friendly at Victoria Park. There will be a mixture of former senior GFC player and youngsters. Kick off is at 5.30pm and entry is free.
