Weekend preview: Tough trip for men’s side while Lionesses sign off from VP

Guernsey are straight back on the road/in the air for a tricky trip as they visit play-off chasing Eastbourne United on Saturday afternoon.

It is one of the tougher games on the Green Lions’ Southern Combination Premier Division run-in. Eastbourne’s surprise defeat at Lancing last weekend was their first defeat since their loss at Victoria Park in January. In between, they won seven and drew one. Charlie Ball, a signing who helped boost the White’s form pre-Christmas but was absent from our last meeting, has 13 goals in 18 games.

What looked to be a comprehensive win at Midhurst & Easebourne was swiftly wiped out with the game abandoned on 70 minutes with the Sarnians leading 4-1. Unfortunately, that means the second of Charlton Gauvain’s two-match suspension carries over to this weekend, so he misses out as well as Dave Merris, who was sent off last Saturday.

With his brace from Tuesday night chalked off (the same luck befalls Jacques Cauvin), Will Fazakerley – on his best scoring season to date – is still chasing double figures in a season for the first time, when he would otherwise already be on 11 goals. Sam Murray needs one more goal to be the only player other than Ross Allen to reach 30 goals in a season.

Simon Arnold, Tom Vaudin, Tom Dodds and Frazer Maginnis all got useful minutes for the Development side in the Jeremie Cup on Wednesday, while Gil Hunter could also be involved again. Seb Vance remains out with a shoulder injury and is joined in the treatment room by Callum Le Lacheur. Ben Solway and George Goubert are also available again.

Other scores to watch out for include Hawywards Heath Town’s home clash with Pagham, current leaders Steyning Town’s trip to Midhurst & Easebourne, Horsham YMs meeting with Lancing and Peacehaven & Telscombe’s visit to Crawley Down Gatwick.

Saturday’s match kicks off at 2pm. Fans not making the journey to The Oval in Eastbourne can watch the first half live on our YouTube channel or listen to commentary of the full 90 minutes on our @GuernseyFC X Space, as well as keep up to date with our usual social media posts.

Guernsey FC Women bid farewell to Victoria Park for the season on Sunday. With only away games remaining, their final home game of the season is against Havant & Waterlooville, who are bidding to finish the season as best-of-the-rest behind champions elect Farnham Town.

Anna Gauvain is pleased to welcome plenty of experience back into the squad. Alana Hockey has a knock so Emma Queripel could make her first appearance of the season in goal, while Rochelle Mullen and Jess Frampton both finally return after injury. In-form striker Ruby Smith is away which means there will be a change in attack. Scarlett Gallagher is also back in the island from university this weekend and so joins the squad for her first home game since August and will likely make her 20th appearance for the club (Eleanor Jamieson is set to hit double figures). Adrienne Leech also returns from injury, but Elise Le Lacheur is still out.

The Green Lionesses have only won once in nine games since October but have hampered by missing several key players all at once. They picked up a useful point in the return fixture in January and a win could see them move up a place in their bid for a strong finish to the season. Havant are undefeated in six league games in 2026 and boast one of the meanest defences in the league.

Sunday’s match kicks off at 2pm. Fans unable to make it to Victoria Park can keep up to date via our social media posts.

A full match report will follow both games.
