Tom Jackson has settled in well after moving to Guernsey and re-signing for the club. Many of you may remember his occasional appearances in our away matches from the age of 16, while he was studying at college in the UK. Fast, accurate, agile and bold, Jackson has always been impressive, but he returns as an older, wiser and stronger player.
“It’s brilliant to be back at Guernsey FC,” he told Harry Jones at training shortly after his return. “I haven’t been back for two years now because of Covid. I’ve been in Spain and it’s great to be back with the boys and the coaches as well after so long.”
While in Spain, Tom was playing for Malaga City. “I really enjoyed it,” he said of his time in Europe. “The weather was great! They play a different style of football, slow and around the back, but it was a good experience to learn to play in a different country and to learn a new language as well.”
We were keen to know Tom’s reasons main reasons for coming back to Guernsey for the rest of the season.
“I think the set-up here is really good, from the coaches to the players,” he explained. “Also, obviously off the pitch I’m staying with my grandparents who live in Guernsey, and so it’s like a second home to me here.” Tom’s father Nick grew up and went to school in Guernsey, and technical coach Steve Sharman is Tom’s godfather.
We asked Tom what he feels he can bring to the squad now he is returning after having had a lot more time to develop. The experience I gained was from Spain so that means I can play a different way,” he told us. “I also think I’ve grown as a player. I’ve got better at different attributes like dribbling and passing, and I think I’ve got stronger as well.”
As for his aims and expectations, both personally and for the team, we’ll leave the last words to Tom himself: “Just to give it all on the pitch and hopefully get as high as we can up the table.”
