Welcome experience returns for South Park as GFC enter new era

Guernsey manager Tony Vance is able to welcome back two of his most important players as the Green Lions kick off a new era at home to South Park on Wednesday evening at Footes Lane.

With Hand Picked Hotels, the club’s main sponsor, owner Julia Hands announced as the big news off the field, midfielder Kieran Mahon and forward Ross Allen are the big news on it as they return to the squad.

Allen had an extended break after recovering from illness that hampered his involvement before Christmas, while the older Mahon brother has completed his three match suspension for the red card picked up in the abandoned game against Hanworth Villa before Christmas.

That boost means Vance has been able to name an initial list of 17 for the match, with the squad to be trimmed to 16 when the teamsheets are handed in. The full squad is as follows: Addison, J Martin, Marsh, Fallaize, Dodd, Vaudin, Merris, Dodds, Rihoy, K Mahon, L Mahon, Loaring, Allen, Wallace, Hale, Domaille, Murray.

The Sarnians are looking to build on a vital win against Sutton Common Rovers 11 days ago. A point could take them off the bottom of Isthmian South Central depending on results elsewhere, while victory could take them as high as 17th with the teams above them within reach.

The Sparks are very much in the play-off mix and had impressive wins over fellow high-flyers Marlow and Northwood recently, but were held to a draw by GFC’s survival rivals Merstham on Boxing Day and were beaten by Thatcham Town at the weekend.

This will be the 14th meeting between the two sides, with GFC winning three of the previous 13, and South Park winning eight (the most any team has regsitered over Guernsey). The Sarnians won three of the first four, meaning Guernsey have gone nine games without winning this fixture.

Wednesday’s match kicks off at 7.45pm. Fans unable to make it to Footes Lane can follow along live on our social media channels. GFCTV highlights and a full match report will be available on the website after the game.
