Guernsey head into take two of their visit to Midhurst & Easebourne knowing that three points will seal third place and a home play-off semi-final.
The Green Lions were leading 4-1 in the first attempt (thanks to two goals from Will Fazakerley and Jacques Cauvin) when the game was abandoned due to a serious injury to an opposition player with 20 minutes to play.
Cauvin won’t play any part in this second attempt due to injury, and the same goes for Jacob Fallaize while Tom Vaudin and Ben Solway are unavailable, but Tony Vance is able to welcome back Josh Addison,
Niall Hainsworth, Fin du Port, Frazer Maginnis, Callum Le Lacheur and Will Fazakerley, who all missed the defeat at Wick due to their exploits for the island’s representative side that edged past Alderney in the Muratti Vase semi-final.
The defeat on Saturday – the third defeat in their last nine – ended any slim chance the Sarnians had of sneaking to the top of the table before the end of the season and puts second place virtually out of reach, so there is just one focus now for GFC. Defeat would give Horsham YM and Peacehaven & Telscombe a minor sniff of snatching that third place.
Guernsey are looking to secure a 30th win of the season in all competitions as well as a 250th competitive win in their history. If Tom Dodds plays, he will join Dominic Heaume on 270 appearances for the club, equal fifth in the all-time list.
It is by no means a dead rubber for the Stags, who still need a point (due to a vastly superior goal difference over Lancing) to ensure safety in the Southern Combination Premier Division. They have just one win in their last 10 and were beaten 5-0 by Bexhill United on Saturday.
