Tom Strawbridge and Kyle Smith are the most notable returns to Tony Vance’s squad tonight as the Green Lions face perhaps their toughest test of the season – a midweek away at Bracknell Town.

The league leaders triumphed 3-0 at Footes Lane back in November and have won all but just three games this season to give them a commanding lead in Isthmian South Central, conceding just 10 goals in the process. They only need seven more points to secure the title.

Strawbridge has been missing since suffering a groin strain against Marlow in November, while Kyle Smith has been nursing a knee injury sustained against Binfield a fortnight ago.Teenager Keene Domaille and forward Glenn Le Tissier are also back in the travelling squad.

Ben Acey is being rested after a lot of football recently, while Keanu Marsh and Will Fazakerley are away and Matt Loaring is unavailable. This game comes too soon for Thomas Dodds, who is hoping to be in contention for selection this weekend after an ankle injury. Liam Mahon is still nursing a knock.

The full squad is as follows: Hanley, McKane, Strawbridge, Fallaize, Dodd, Le Tocq, Jackson, K Mahon, Rihoy, Gauvain, Le Tissier, Smith, Allen, Domaille.

The Robins are also naturally leading the form table, but the Sarnians are not far behind with four wins form their last seven. A win against the odds would see GFC leapfrog Thatcham Town into 13th place. A point would have been enough had it not been for Thatcham holding Hanwell Town, our weekend opponents, to a stalemate on Tuesday evening.

The Green Lions have visited Bottom Meadow before, back in 2012, but that was to face Sandhurst Town, who groundshare with Bracknell. Angus Mackay and Loaring scored in a 2-0 win that night.

Wednesday’s match kicks off at 7.45pm. Fans back in Guernsey can catch the action live on GFCTV, and are encouraged to gather at ‘Le Lion Vert’ at the Guernsey Hockey Club at Footes Lane to watch it together. Highlights and a full match report will follow.
